NGS NOW
The NOW programme aims to bring the NGS into the wider community. This is achieved by coordinating with local schools, colleges and youth councils. By taking the NGS to young people in schools we hope to share and learn from the ideas that young people in our communities have. It also broadens our scope beyond that of the University.
Benefits can only be achieved by offering debate to as many members of the New Generation as possible.
The NGS NOW program runs as mini branches in schools where pupils are able to meet regularly and discuss their thoughts. NGS York will be on hand to offer any support and guidance that the schools require.Young people involved in the NOW programme will have the opportunity to attend speaker events that the NGS holds and the opportunity to contribute to the NGS online journal, thus encouraging young people to articulate their concerns.
The most successful NGS NOW project so far has been a ‘Thinking and Drinking’ style session at St. Peter’s School in York. At this event we discussed the very topical issue of ‘Civil Liberties in the 21st Century’, and we had some fantastic input and thoughts from the pupils.
